In the 70's my mate James collected the Airfix magazine while I got Military Modelling. We devoured them both. We really only bought planes as close support aircraft (eg stukas and typhoons dangling from garden canes) for our mad games which took place on the table tennis table (the landscape created from bags of saw dust) or in the garden. When the madness ended, James gave me his magazines.

Guyguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02346804356499461777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1430463007570237159.post-43634918549294389112020-04-14T13:50:39.392+01:002020-04-14T13:50:39.392+01:00I have a soft spot for that plane. It certainly had a modern look for a plane conceived in the late 1930s.

I understand lack of range was one drawback, but the performance if fitted with 2 Merlins would surely have been phenominal. But there were not enough Merlins to go around.Keith Flinthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12903769462646267048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1430463007570237159.post-52300507178855355392020-04-14T09:13:28.583+01:002020-04-14T09:13:28.583+01:00Loved the Whirlwind kit. I oncevheard that its problem was that it had twin engines and a Spitfire needed only one to do the same job.
A pity they did not send 100 to Singapore instead of buying Brewster Buffaloes.!

Roy
lewisgunnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01935143236897047636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1430463007570237159.post-19000811780369420902020-04-12T08:47:15.133+01:002020-04-12T08:47:15.133+01:00Stu - I didn't notice any issues at all. Ah the joys of looking through my Dad's old Airfix magazines in the early '70's, the pleasure of browsing in Renmodels in Cambridge. My first kit, out together by my Dad was an Airfix Fokker Dr1 that came in a bag IIRC. Then of course the endless flicking through the Airix catalogue dreaming of kits I could never find or afford, the Westland Whirlind being one of them. As for future kits it has to be the Wellington, my favourite bomber of the war.Steve J.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12143308117853983963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1430463007570237159.post-6040922712373455682020-04-10T18:10:38.346+01:002020-04-10T18:10:38.346+01:00That Whirlwind is just FABULOUS.
